A Tea Cup For The Proper Englishman

What unfolded during a Reiki session with my brother

Last year, on a long weekend, we were all at the cabin.

My siblings, our kids, the usual chaos and joy.

While the kids napped, my brother asked if I’d give him a Reiki session.

We grabbed some cushions and set up on the picnic table.

I placed my hands and began.

Immediately, someone joined us.

To my left, I saw an older man.

Sitting in one of those old folding lawn chairs, mesh-backed, with a beer in hand.

He was so relaxed, like this was his place, too.

I described him out loud.

My brother looked up and nodded.

He knew exactly who it was- Herman.

He used to mow Herman's lawn, weed his garden, and sit with him for hours, sometimes enjoying a beer.

They had a bond.

Then Herman showed me a china cabinet.

Inside, a teacup with scalloped edges, blue with purple flowers.

With a chuckle, he shared-

“Give this to the proper Englishman.”

That part? It stopped my brother in his tracks.

He calls his son, my nephew, “Englishman” in a little song he sings to him.

No one else would know that.

Afterward, I called our mom.

“Can you check the china cabinet in the basement?”

She did. And there it was.

The exact teacup. Blue, scalloped, purple flowers.

Stamped on the bottom: Made in England.

Spirit has a way of weaving through the ordinary.

Through teacups.

Through songs.

Through love that lingers, and messages meant for just one heart.

💫 Trust what comes. It’s often more real than we know.
