Where I’m From

Born and raised in Saskatoon.

I went to the U of S where I got my Bachelor of Education and Post- Degree Certificate in Special Education.

We're still here in Saskatoon. Still connected to this city.

My son has one of my old teachers this year. That was a pretty neat moment for her and me, as it’s her first time having a former student’s child in her class.

How I Met Justin

I remember seeing him for the first time walking into a math tutorial. I was drawn to him right away, but I didn't meet him until a couple of months later as he climbed into a friend’s car. I thought - there he is! We were inseparable after that.

I did start in Engineering, but realized quickly it wasn’t the right fit, and switched to Education - which is what I always wanted.

I'm grateful for that detour though. It’s where I met Justin. Almost 19 years together, 13 years married.

Family

I’m the oldest of four. I have two brothers and a sister.

Justin and I have 4 kids (a boy and 3 girls), 3 nieces, 2 nephews, and another niece on the way.

Soon, there will be 20 of us gathered. It’s amazing to see what my parents love and hard work has built.

My siblings and parents are all within a 10 minute drive.

My Parents

My mom is my go to. We talk every day, often for over an hour and sometimes more then once. Her wisdom grounds me. She is a strong source of support for my family. It’s always an exciting time when Grandma (mom) brings her cooking and baking; it’s the best!

My dad shows love through action as the family foreman. Tools in hand, always helping us with renovations, mechanics, and teaching through action. Also a big help tying skates when Justin is away- apparently I dont tie them tight enough, lol.

Hobbies

I love quilting and sewing. It’s my favorite way to spend my spare time.

I started quilting in high school. In the last few years I’ve been sewing dresses for my daughters, too. My sewing room is under renovation right now, and I’m looking forward to having that space back.

We have a sewing machine for the kids, so I'm looking forward to making a quilt with them this winter.

And fishing- I really enjoy fishing and being at the lake!

Sports

In my younger years, I played soccer and did competitive curling until I was in my mid 20s.

I ran the learn to curl program at the Granite Curling Club, and coached high school curling for many years, too.

Now, I spend my time watching the kids in dance, soccer, hockey and flag football.

Quiet Evenings

I’m an introvert and recharge with quiet, alone time - not always easy with 4 kids, but I make it work and sometimes I have a tag along... or more.

I love ending the day with a hot bath, usually followed by TV with Justin. Right now, we’re watching Friends for the first time.

The Office and Arrested Development are favorites, and I enjoy reading too - mostly mysteries, sometimes romance.

Work & Values

I’ve worked with the Catholic school division in Saskatoon for about 13 years.

I’ve had many jobs since I was 12- babysitting, manual labour, and teaching roles.

My parents raised us to work hard, trust ourselves, and not accept being treated less than. My siblings and I are close. Even when we don’t see each other often, we connect daily through Snapchat.

Thanks for taking the time to get to know me a little better.

Between family, quiet evenings, and the work I love, life is full and ever-changing. I’m grateful for the people and experiences that shape my days and the opportunity to connect with others along the way.

Nicole ♡
