It can feel frustrating or confusing when labour slows down.

This is more common than you think.

There are gentle, supportive ways to work with it

First, know this:

A pause in labour doesn’t mean something is wrong.

Labour often ebbs and flows.

Sometimes your body or your baby needs a moment.

Start with the basics

🌿 Drink fluids

🌿 Eat something nourishing

🌿 Rest when you can

Your body needs energy to keep going. This foundation matters.

Try movement

🌿 Sway your hips

🌿 Hands and knees

🌿 Sit on a birth ball

🌿 Use rebozo sifting

Movement helps baby adjust and encourages contractions to return.

Try a position circuit

Changing positions every 30–60 minutes can help shift energy.

Examples include:

🌿 Upright Positions (help gravity and baby’s descent)

🌿 Supported/Semi-Upright

🌿 Resting or Relaxed

🌿 Movement-Based

Follow your body’s cues.

Let your emotions flow

Tension, fear, or emotional overwhelm can affect labour.

Talk it through.

Cry if needed.

Feeling emotionally supported helps your nervous system relax and can allow labour to resume.

Gentle stimulation may help

🌿 Nipple stimulation

🌿 A warm shower

🌿 Sex or intimacy

Pleasure and oxytocin are powerful allies in labour.

Some may also explore acupuncture, homeopathy, acupressure, craniosacral therapy, etc.

Always listen to what feels right for you and check with your care team if needed.

Energy work can support the shift

Reiki or other calming practices can reduce fear, help your body feel safe, and encourage labour to progress.

When we feel grounded and safe, the body can open.

Labour is rarely linear.

You and your baby are working as a team. You have a plan and so do they.

You’re allowed to pause, reassess, tune in to baby, and be supported.

You are doing beautifully.

And you’re not alone. Message me to see how I can support you.
